Prisoners dilema strategies that win:
- Nice
- Forgiving
- Retaliatory (strike back right away)
- Clear
- (Nice guys really can finish first?)
- This is all given infinite time (but time is very important)
-
I think everybody agrees with this - but also you can “show” that something is tit for tat even if it is not
-
Explains cooperation
-
Life and death matters
-
Tit for tat vs not tit for tat could set off a constant retaliations
- So why not firgive 10% more often (9/10 times don’t defect after a defection)
-
Tit for tat never wins 1v1
-
Difference between life and sports?
- Zero sum (1v1) where tit for tat would always lose and always defect would always tie or win
- Life is not zero sum? Cooperation pays? Why does cooperation pay?
- What are win/win situations?
- In a world where you play games vs a lot of people you will come across a lot of different strategies and you don’t have to win against everybody (especially if cooperation produces more points)
- In the short term:
- The environment shapes the player
- In the long run:
- The players shape the environment
- THE GOAL IS TO ACCUMULATE POINTS - NOT TO DEFEAT THE OPPONENT
